Meet Your Maker: A new series introducing you to our products and their producers.

Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 5:30 to 6:30pm.

The apiaries of Osprey Bluffs Honey Company have been on the same farmstead for more than a half century. Their bees forage across the fields and forests of Grey, Bruce, Dufferin, and Simcoe Counties. Osprey Bluffs honey is a popular product for the Collingwood Farm to Table Market and we are delighted to have beekeeper Hugh Simpson be our speaker for this week’s Meet your Maker.

Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 5:30 to 6:30pm.

Featuring: Eric Jelinski of MARRIC GARDENS.

Margret and Eric of Marric Gardens both grew up on farms. Marg’s father had a market garden for veggies in Tara. Eric was active in farming his father’s dairy farm until 18 when he went to university. After graduating, Eric worked for some 30 years for Ontario Hydro at the nuclear power plants. Upon retiring from Ontario Hydro, Marg and Eric purchased a 50 acre farm just south of Sunnidale Corners, and started their business of growing flowers and veggies.

Starting with one acre, then two, then five, now fifteen acres are cultivated for veggies, fingerling potatoes, beets, carrots, garlic, leeks, onions, cabbage, kale, swiss chard, corn, squash, and pumpkins. While not yet certified organic, they practice the organic techniques of crop rotation, cover cropping, green manure and soil health, because the nutrition of the food is all based on soil health and uptake of necessary minerals from the soil.

Eric is a member of the Ecological Farmers Association, Canadian Organic Growers, and the Organic Council of Ontario. On the flowers aspect, Marg hybridizes and collects seeds specializing in daylilies and hostas to grow hardy beautiful flowers. She is a member of the Ontario Daylily Society and Ontario Hosta Society. The farm is open to people wanting to view the flowers and farming methods.
